Mark Dec 12, 0 comments 5 min read. Its all gone dark! I love the simple humor in the exchange above with Mo and Larry. The simple fact that we have our eyes closed might be the reason we cannot see. So, as per their shtick…he smacks Larry on the back of the head.

Yep, Larry is a wise guy in one sense. He knows how to provoke his partner. We only had 3 channels and limited programs—ANY program seemed like a miracle to view.

The 3 channels we got required some rooftop antennas that looked like clothes lines. My life was more about getting your chores done on the farm and playing outside. TV was a treat and luxury. Maybe it was the simpler times we lived in and any TV good or bad was a novelty? That could be it…not much choice or programming? Or maybe it unknowingly tapped into my desire to watch people make fools of themselves. Somehow its alright because after all…they were stooges.

It strikes me now as stupid, degrading, and completely insensitive. My dad refused to watch it. He said it was stupid and asinine. No, not me! Why, how could I be a stooge? Have I wandered around aimlessly at times? Holy crap, I am a stooge! But wait, how can that be. I have never poked someone in the eye or slapped them on the back of the head, put their nose in a pliers and twisted it, tripped them, shut them in a closet with a gorilla breathing down their neck, or had a bowl of lobster bisque eat my cracker or bite my nose!

Or poked them in the eye…. You see a wise guy is wise in their own eyes. However, I need to keep my self awareness attuned to not acting like a stooge in the most subtle ways. I need to be a wise guy. In the best sense. The good news? The Stooges always came out on top in the end somehow despite all their pratfalls and problems. They seemed to survive and the story found resolution at the end. However, at the end of every series was the beginning of the next stooges adventure.

They were off running, curly vocalizing his trademark whooping sounds, and chasing each other…aimlessly wandering into the next episode. Regardless if they are acting like a stooge or not. People actually would come up and poke them in the eyes, play jokes on them. It was as if they were less than real people. Devalued in the most tragic ways. Facebook Twitter RSS. Leadership Development Self Management. Oh, but maybe—just maybe—I have been a wise guy. Let me make a list. Let people go unprepared and be embarrassed be a stooge …like some meetings during my career.

Left some things undone, wasted time, and did some aimless wandering. Not speaking up, but going along and laughed when it probably was hurting someone else being the brunt of a joke.

Taken my own shortcomings as the fault of others and treat them like its their fault. Then someone might truly say….
