The Big Guy at The Villages at Allen Tx

By Sharon Grigsby. Now they are trying to protect jolly old St. Nick's traditions while still honoring the legacy of a one-of-a-kind Santa. For 18 years, first at Stonebriar Centre, then the Village at Allen and finally at Fairview, he enchanted old and young alike. A towering figure with long white hair and beard, twinkling eyes and a belly that actually did shake like a bowl full of jelly, The Big Guy never met a stranger.

As he regularly told visitors, each of them was a much loved member of his family. When parents learned of his passing last December, Fairview Town Center was deluged with thousands of distraught messages. A vigil in his honor was held right after Christmas. In accordance with his wishes, no personal details about the man behind the magic were ever released.

The special bond between The Big Guy and the many who adored him strikes me as part of a larger parenting story: The almost obsessive desire to create magic and keep it alive as long as possible — especially in a world where magic seems in short supply. And Christmas enchantment is much easier to sustain if you see the same Santa every year, especially if he is as genuine and personable as The Big Guy. When I was a kid, we thought we were lucky to get carted to whichever Santa was handiest — regardless of whether he resembled The Real Deal.

As young boys, my two sons were way more curious about Christmas traditions. Wendy Ellis, marketing director for Fairview, has been in the unenviable position of having to answer that question over and over. As for Santa? Abbie Johnson of Prosper was worried her older child, 5-year-old Ryker, would sense a difference after four years with The Big Guy.

I think that was really Santa. Even before their children were born, the couple took their golden retriever to meet Santa.

This year, they told Jaina, 15, and Alex, 12, the truth. To us he was Santa. There is no other Santa. Yet another Santa is welcoming kids at Fairview, many of them a new generation. Best I can tell, the change is actually hardest on the adults, not the kids — probably because we cling to the foolish idea that we can make time stand still.

Santa Sightings: Where to Meet the Big Guy in Frisco

Not a good experience. Poorly managed in getting families in the door, and young lady that was the manager was very overwhelmed. They need to make the sessions five minutes with only ONE family per five minute time slot.

Claus their wishlists in person. For those who spend their days as jolly Saint Nick, the season starts well before you might think.

As Santa Claus nestled on his massive purple velvet throne at Concord's Sunvalley Shopping Center, 4-year-old Tulip gazed up at him, looking anxious. She's hoping for lots of treats," Melissa Blakeney cooed to Santa, after identifying herself as Tulip's mom. It was just one of dozens of visits the mall Santa would experience that day. Sobbing toddlers refused to smile for their photos. Cowlicked boys straight out of the s requested Xboxes and robotic dinosaurs.
